Indianapolis Standards Training

This spring, join educators across Indianapolis for a unique three-part professional development experience focused on deepening understanding of academic expectations for students.

We’ll be offering five different tracks: K-5 Math, 6-12 Math, K-5 ELA, 6-12 ELA, and a track for Chief Academic Officers (CAOs) and other senior instructional leaders.

K-5 and 6-12 Math Tracks

In the K-5 and 6-12 math tracks, participants will develop a clear understanding of the mathematical shifts of focus, coherence and rigor through examining standards-aligned tasks and activities. They’ll understand how to use some of the best available resources and tools to support standards-aligned math instruction, and they’ll analyze how students engage with the Indiana math standards and the math practice standards in daily lessons.

K-5 and 6-12 ELA Tracks

In the K-5 and 6-12 ELA tracks, participants will develop a clear understanding of the ELA instructional shifts and standards through examining standards-aligned tasks and activities. In 6-12, participants will practice determining text complexity, write targeted text-dependent questions, and understand the depth and nuance of the standards. In K-5, participants will also focus on foundational skills, examining ways to immerse students in learning environments that engage them to build fluency, knowledge, vocabulary, and comprehension in the classroom, in addition to learning about available tools and research to support standards-aligned ELA instruction.

CAO/System Leaders Track

In the CAOs/System Leaders track, participants will walk away with an understanding of what’s required to lead standards implementation in math and ELA across their system. They’ll gain an awareness of relevant research and available tools to evaluate materials, support instruction, and build teachers’ capacity to plan, deliver, and assess student learning.
