Building Instructional Coaching Capacity in ELA

Oakland Unity Middle School (OUMS) began a partnership with Instruction Partners through a grant from Silicon Schools Fund. Kate Goedeker, co-principal and founding team member, recalls, “After the pandemic, we really wanted to refocus our lens around instruction and learning, so we applied for a grant to be able to do this work really intentionally with a high-quality partner.”

After one year of partnership focused on strengthening ELA coaching, Oakland Unity Middle School saw a 12.72-point increase in students testing above grade-level proficiency in ELA on the state assessment.
